MEETINGS

ST. COLUMBA CLUB.

A meeting'of the St. Columba Club was held yesterday. Mr P. Doogan presided. Arrangements were finalised for a visit to Hokitika to-night, when the Club’s oratory and elocutionary teams are to be the guests of St. Mary’s Club. A debate will be held, the subject being: “That modern progress in science and machinery is for the real benefit of mankind.” St. Mary’s will take the affirmative.

A special appeal was made by the President, who asked for every member’s whole-hearted co-operation in any movement for the 'betterment of the Club. It was decided that the Club entertain the Children of Mary at a social evening on Monday next. A challenge to take part in a debate was accepted from the United Chib, arrangements to be made later.
