WRESTLER GOES BERSERK

UPROAR IN SYDNEY. There was an extraordinary ending to the so-called world’s light-heavy-weight wrestling championship at Sydnel a week or two ago. In the sixth round the challenger, Nicholls, appeared to have the contest won, Thye being in a bad way. To save himself the champion grabbed the ropes. Nicholls applied a deadly headlock and pulled back on Thye with all his force. Without warning, the champion suddenly let go his liold on the ropes and flung himself backwards, with Nicholls underneath. The challenger went to the floor with a tremendous crash and was rendered unconscious, Thye gaining a fall. This, however, was only a mild prelude to what followed. Nicholls was dragged back to his corner and apparently revived. But just, as he was coming out of his corner at the start of the seventh round to make a savage attack on Thye, his second flung in the towel. Nicholls promptly went berserk. Ho flung himself on his luckless second and the pair grappled fiercely. The referee and Thye vainly tried to separate the pair, but it was only after several others joined in that the maddened Texan was forced back to his corner. The referee then gave the decision to Thye, amid an uproar.
