PLUNKET CARNIVAL

CONCLUDES TO-NIGHT.

The Greymouth Plunket Society’s Carnival Bazaar was continued yesterday afternoon and evening, when, despite ideal weather, the attendances were again poor, although showing a slight improvement on the previous dav. The Municipal Band rendered much appreciated selections during the evening, and will be in attendance again to-night. What few people were there yesterday patronised the stalls and the side-shows well. Tills afternoon and evening the Bazaar will be continued, and will conclude to-night. Only a supreme effort to-day on the part of the citizens of Greymouth and district can make the function a success, and thus recompense the many enthusiastic ladies and men who have worked so hard to bring about the Bazaar. A trip to the Town Hall today or this evening will more than repay each patron to the many stalls and side shows being run. The. ladies still have a huge amount of all classes of material for disposal at the lowest prices. There are produce, cakes, sweets, fancywork and jumble stalls as well as side-shows and tea-rooms to patronise. Young people could do nothing better to-night than roll up to the Town Hall and join in all the fun of a carnival. RUNANGA PLUNKET BALL.

The first Annual Plain and Fancy Dress Ball of the Runanga Plunket Society was held in the Miners’ Hall last night. There was a large turnout, 250 couples being present. Visitors came in large numbers from Greymouth, Cobden, Blackball etc. The hall was tastefully decorated and the floor was in first-class order. The dancers enjoyed to the full Williams’s Orchestra, it being repeatedly encored. The supper-room arrangements were in the hands of a most energetic committee who deserve the thanks of the large gathering present for such a commendable supper, which was voted the best of the season.
