The millionaire Hull shipowner, Sir Walter Cockerline, has been charged with making false income tax returns, involving £107,000. , He has been committed for trial despite the prosecution’s desire to withdraw the case on account of defendant’s precarious state of health, also to the fact that he offered to pay £300,000 in addition to the first named amount.
