DISPUTE AT HIKURANGI (Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Sept. 26. A strike occurred at Hikurangi mine yesterday, owing to some miners being delayed through the non-return of the “skips.” Ten men were involved. The management were requested to pay waiting time. This request met with an emphatic refusal'. The rest i of the miners then walked out of the mine. . A deputation from the Miners’ Union waited on the mine manager this afternoon to request that in any similar case in future the men be allowed to come up on top, instead of being detained below. Councillor George Hunter, a Labour member of the City Council, has resigned as the result of the firm in which he is partner, having sold coal to the Council through a third party. The coal owners have accepted the Government’s proposal for a remission of a shilling a ton in the sellingprice of coal, as their contribution towards a rehabilitation of the coal industry.
