Mr and Mrs I. Leach left this morning on annual holiday to Christchurch. The death is announced from London of Lord Birkenhead’s mother. Miss D. Jackson (Cobden), left this morning on a visit to Invercargill. Mr and Mrs R. Smith left this morning for Wellington. Mr S. Groom has entered the Grey Hospital for treatment. Mr and Mrs D. Watson, who have been visiting the West Coast, returned to-day to Christchurch. Mr J. Phibbs (Hokitika) - , was a passenger this morning for Christchurch en route to Blenheim. Mr and Mrs R?M. Isaacs arrived this afternoon from Invercargill, on a holiday visit to Greymouth. Mr and Mrs D. McPhee, who have been spending a holiday on the West Coast, returned to-day to Dunedin. Mr J. Field, of the Greymouth Railway Loco Department, left this morning for Christchurch, «n his annual holidays. Mr L. B. Miller, who has been on a business trip to England and Europe, returned to Greymouth by this afternoon’s express. Mr P. Miller, Railway Foreman of Works, Invercargill, who has been spending a holiday in Greymouth, returned south to-day. Mrs Godfrey, who has been visiting her sister Mrs J. C. Gittos, Albert Terr race, returned to Christchurch, this morning. Messrs F. C. Haycraft, and C. Green, members of the Greymoifth Fire Board, arrived by to-day’s express from Christchurch. Sir Maui Pomare is suffering chiefly from severe neuritis. He will probably be under treatment for ten days in a private hospital in Hamilton. Pi ess Assn. The death is announced from Christchurch of Mr Thomas Kincaid, aged 74, a former member of the City Council, and the proprietor of a wellknown grocery business. —Press Assn. Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Messrs A. Read, A. Carr (Wellington), G. Stitt (Auckland), A. E. Christie (Ashburton), K. Smith (Christchurch), A. Wallis, McCausland. Mrs Dorothy Moncrieff, widow of the airman who lost his life in January s Tasman flight, was married yesterday to Mr Philip Cooper, at St. Paul’s proCathedral, Wellington (telegraphed our correspondent). The death took place at Nelson yesterday of Mr William Turley (hairdresser). Deceased was a resident of Greymouth for many years, and during the recent Jubilee Celebrations motored through to the Coast, about which- he toured for some time. The death of Mr George Ernest King, of Wallis Siding, took place at the Grey Hospital to-day. Deceased was 36 years of age, and leaves a widow, and two young children. The burial will take place at Invercargill.

The death has occurred at Cambridge (England), of Sir Horace Darwin, aged 77, the son of the late Charles Darwin, author of “The Origin of the Species.” Sir Horace was a Fellow of the Royal Society and an authority on the science of aeronautics. He devoted much attention to the' design of scientific! instruments, constructing among others one for measuring, in thousandth parts of a millimetre,'the cracks in Saint Pauls. Advice was received to-day of the death, at his late residence in Auckland, yesterday, of Mr George Smith, son of the late Mr George Smith (of Smith and Barkley, drapers, for many years in business on the site now occupied by Thorpy’s, Ltd., in Mawhera Quay}. Deceased was a native of Melbourne, and came to Greymouth many years ago. He was at one time manager of the Bank pf New South Wales, and, on retiring,, went to reside in Auckland. He leaves three sisters and one brother, and was a married man. The death of Mr William Chatham, occurred at the Grey Hospital yesterday afternoon following on an illness of about a fortnight’s duration Deceased, who was forty-four years of age, was a native of Waikouaiti, and had been in Greymouth for the past eight years. He was formerly employed on survey parties, and was well known. He leaves a mother and brother who reside in Waikouaiti. The funeral took place at Karoro this afternoon, when there was a large attendance of Greymouth friends. The service at the graveside was taken by Rev. J. A. Jermyn.
