A special general meeting of the Public Tennis Club was held in the hall on Monday evening. Mr P. H. Jones was in the chair and there was a fair attendance of members. Mrs 1 Haab was appointed secretary and treasurer in place of Mr R. Tomlinson, resigned. The President and Secretary were appointed trustees for the Club. The offer of a gold medal by Mr and Mrs Tomlinson for the best improved player under 14 was accepted with thanks. Mrs Lewis was appointed to the committee in place of Mrs Haab. Some arrangements were made about opening day. Invitations are to be issued to the patron, vicepresidents, Domain Board, members of the other tennis club, and of the Football and Cricket Clubs, and friends interested. It was decided to levy members of the club one shilling each- to defray expenses. The matter of a Children’s Fancy Dress Ball was referred to the committee to act upon. Preparation of the rules for incorporation was left in the hands of the president and captain. Monday night was boisterous and wet, nearly one and a-half inches of rain falling. . There is a great deal of sickness about, especially among children, with the protracted spell of wet weather. The - temperature on Wednesday morning was only 37 degrees, and showers of snow fell during the forenoon. The barometer has been extra low lately, 27.4 inches.
