ROAD CYCLING

N.Z. FIFTY MILES CHAMPIONSHIP. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 16. The New Zealand fifty miles cycle championship was held yesterday from Wellington to Mungaroa Hill and back. A bad patch in the Taita Gorge caused several of the riders to fall on the way out. On the' home run the twelve minute men made the pace. Coming through the Taita Gorge, Crose fell in the bad patch of the road, when Lukey sustained a break on his co-markers, and caught up with Whitten, the Auckland rider, who off eight minutes, had ridden exceptionally well. Passing Thorndon Station, Wright and Christenson dropped Moorhouse, who had been with them up to this stage. At the finish Christenson led Wright home, and gained the decision by a length. A little after these two had finished Moorhouse came in, closely followed by Whitten, Webber, Toomer, Lukey and Grose. The detailed results are as follow: —• F. Christenson (12mins) .. .. 1 S. Wright (12mins) .. .. 2 L. Moorhouse (12mins) .. .. 3 J. Whitten (Auckland, Smins) 4 H. S. Webber (6mins) .. .. 5 The fastest time was recorded by L. G. Lukey (scr), 2hrs Smins 26sec., second fastest time, F. J. Grose (scr) 2hr.s Bmins 521 secs. At the conclusion of the race the Mayoress decorated L. G. Lukey with the fastest time sash, and presented the other successful competitors with the trophies they had won. '
