Mr \V. Cairns, whose deatih took place at Reefton last Saturday, was well known here, having been employed at the' Blackwater mine and battery for a number of years. A conference was held in the Miners’ Union office last Thursday evening between representatives of the Domain. Board. Football Club and Cricket Club. Tlia following were present: —Domain Board, Messrs R. M. Hempseed and T. R. Hogg ; Football Club, .Messrs 11. Taylor, J. Reid, T. Anisy and E. Byrne ; Cricket Club, Mr J- Fitzgerald. The conference debated methods of financing improvements to the Domain, which work is now being done. It was decided to appeal to the various sports bodies for donations, including the Public Tennis Club. Permission from the Internal Affairs Department is to be sought to run an art union. Application is also to be made to the Inangahua. Rugby League Sub-Centre for all the gate receipts for the rest of the season. After dull but mild weather, n
