LONDON, August 24.
Hilda Sharp, an 18-year-old nursemaid, swam the .Channel in 15 hours 43 minutes.
MATCH WITH AMERICAN.
LONDON, August 24.
The Channel has been swum by two British girls within a week.' Sharp’s swim was distinctly meritorious, the corrected time being 14 hours 58 minutes. She returned from France tonight, stating that she would probably make, another attempt to lower Gertrude Ederle’s record, and win the £lOOO prize offered. She used the trudgeon crawl throughout, and once appeared likely to beat the women’s record by three hours, but the tide held her back. She says that she is prepared to challenge Ederle, if a suitable prize is offered.
