BLACKBALL MINE
one shift System only
(Our Own Correspondent.)
BLACKBALL, August 24
A deputation of the Blackball Miners’ Union Executive, met the management of the Blackball Mining Company on Thursday evening. Mr White (Wellington), Director of the Company, who arrived by the express that day outlined his case on behalf of the Company, and told of the losses the Company were involved in at the present juncture under present working conditions. As regards the suggestion put forward by the local Union deputation to work the mine on the present double shift sys-. tern, Mr White blankly refused to entertain that proposal in any shape j or form. He could not see eye to eye with the deputation as regards “sharing the work” policy, as advocated by the local executive committee.
Further details will be disclosed at the mass meeting of the Miners’ Union to be held to-morrow (Sunday) morning. Notices of dismissal expired on Friday, August 24, and it. is understood that the Company will “pay-off” all employees who have received notices of dismissal, on Wednesday. The whistle of the Blackball Mine indicated “no work” for “dog watch" men on Friday night, and in all probability a cessation of hostilities will be proclaimed, pending further information from the Miners’ Executive Committee, after the meeting scheduled to take place on Sunday morning.
