SYDNEY, August 5.
A link with the old military police was revealed yesterday morning, when a baton, leg-arms, and spurs were discovered in a cellar at the Hotel Victoria, George Street, near Hunter Street.
The relics were handed to the Clarence Street police and' will be passed on to the Commissioner (Mr Mitchell) who will order them to be sent to the museum at the police depot. The baton is of hardwood and about 2ft Gin in length. Painted black, it still shows lettering, “W.R. IV., Sydney Police,” and the coat of arms. The leg irons have a chain connection of about 12 inches and the spurs are of ordinary make. . They were found by an employee of the hotel, while he was cleaning out the cellar, and were handed to the police by the licensee, Mr Hall. It pvas close to where the Hotel Victoria stgjids that the main entrance to the old George Street military barracks was located.
