WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Play for the West Coast golf tournament was continued to-day in fine weather, though the links were heavy after the rain of the past few days. This evening the visiting players will be entertained at a tournament ball, when the trophies will be presented. To-day’s results were: — , . , In the semi-final of the Ladies Championship, Mrs Slee beat Mrs Kerr 2 up and I. Miss Tennent beat Mrs Wilson 2 up and 1.The final will be played at 1.30 tomorrow.
The Ladies’ Bogey Handicap was won by Miss Moore, 2 down. Mrs Cunningham, Mrs Bird and Miss Kelly, all 4 down, being the next cards. In the semi-finals of the Men s Championship, Park beat McCarthy, 1 up. Sime beat Smith 3 up and 2.
The Men’s Flag Handicap was won by Martin (Westport), who had 10 strokes to' go after finishing the round, and took the flag to the 21st green. GREYMOUTH LADIES The qualifying round of the junior championship has been postponed till Saturday, .September 8. DANNEVIRKE TOURNAMENT (Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, August 23. Dannevirke annual ladies’ golf tourney concluded to-day. Mrs. Collinson (Palmerston North) * winning the Southern Hawke’s Bay championship for the second time in succession. She defeated Miss Gaisford (Marton) in the final by two up after a brilliant game. Mrs. Spiers (Napier) won the Pataoraite Handicap, defeating Miss Drummond (Dannevirke) in the final a closely fought match which had to be carried to the twenty eighth hole.
