(Press Association.)

BLENHEIM, August 13

McDonald (10.11), of Palmerston North, defeated Len Turner (11.2), Rai Valley, Wellington Central middle and light heavy-weight champion, to-night in a special bout in the Marlborough Association’s amateur tourney.

It was a furious encounter, and was marred by a good deal of holding in the early -rounds. The winner proved a clever boxer, showing superior ringcraft. He refused to make the contest open, which would have suited the Marlburian. The judges disagreed. After four rounds the verdict was in favour of McDonald. It met with a mixed reception.

SYDNEY, August 13.

Peter Colby (10.12) out-pointed Vince Parker (10.12), of New Zealand. over ten rounds at the Sydney Stadium.

t OLYMPIC REFEREES. (United Service.) AMSTERDAM, August 12. “This will be the end of Olympic boxing,” declared General Kentish, referring to vagaries of referees during the contests just finished.

A message to the Sydney “Sun” on July 30, stated: —“The New Zealand boxer Tom Heeney has been advised by cablegram that his father is ill. Consequently Tom and his brothers will return to New Zealand within two weeks. In his 15 months in the United States the New Zealander, in ten contests, has earned about £51,000, of which he has saved nearly half, after paying his managers and trainers. Of the cheque from Mr Tex Rickard for £21,150 for his fight with Tunney, £ll5O represents Tom’s share in the moving pictures after the deduction of Federal and State taxes,. The cut over his left eye is healing, but the eye is bloodshot. Tom is consulting an oculist.”
