(Our Own Correspondent.)

A meeting of the Blackball Miners’ Union took place in the Miners’ Hall yesterday morning, a large number of members attending. After the business of the previous meeting was concluded, Mr. A. McLagan vacated the chair in favour of the newly elected President, Mr. H. Chilton.

Mr. P. J. Clunan (Returning Officer) put the results of the recent ballots for the various positions on the Miners’ Executive. Pictures Committee and Secretary before the meeting. Correspondence was received from the Blackball Coal Company as regards a stoppage of a certain number of employees, notices already being issued to that effect. The single members of the Union being mainly •the unfortunate ones. After a deal of discussion, it was resolved that the Executive of the Miners’ Union interview the Directors of the Blackball Coal Co. when they visit this locality in the near future, with a view to the Directors of the Company acceding to the Union’s request of still working the mine on the double shift system. Failing this, the Executive were empowered to advocate for a “sharing the work” policy. The meeting was adjourned until Sunday next, pending further developments.
