HUDSON ROSE BOWL GAMES

REEFTON, June 25.

Despite the inclement weather, rain and cold, all fixtures were duly played on Saturday. Every team turned out with its full complement of players before la fair mustering of spectators. Some of the surprising results were, no doubt, attributable to the slippery state of the turf and different weather conditions to what have been the rule this season. UNITED C 1, SCHOOL A 7. United C having formerly beaten Reefton A, were expected to give School A a very hard go for it. in this match, but were thoroughly trounced from start to finish. School A, combining beautifully, worked like a machine weaving patterns round their bewildered opponents, whose individual efforts were made to look feeble in comparison. The scorers were Verna Morris (3), Miss Hutton (3), and Olive Ferguson (1) for the winners, while Miss Galway notched the losers’ only goal. Misses Ferguson and Morris were brilliant throughout.

SCHOOL B 0, REEFTON A 0. Reefton A with more than its proportion of inexperienced players, did exceptionally well to force a draw in this game. Territorially School B had slightly the better of matters, but Reefton were most often nearest to scoring, Misses M. Kearns and D. Tobin twice missing by inches only. Perhaps the cloest shave of the match was from a shot by Greta Magee for School just, before half-time, which Mrs Colvin cleared by making a flying leap and belting the ball into touch just as it was. about to cross the goalline. Mrs Colvin (Reefton) and Miss Alice Patterson (School) were the outstanding players.

REEFTON B 0, UNITED B S. United B set out to make the pace a “cracker” right from the start, but found the Reefton defence quite a tough proposition. Gradually, however, they wore them down until towards the end they were able to score much as they pleased. It was the old story of a team concentrating on defence inviting disaster, and in this ease they got it with a vengeance. Misses Cutbush (3), Lisle Warren (3) and “Topsy” Griggs (2) were the scorers, and most conspicuous players for the winners. For the losers. Mollie Downey played a lone hand as a. forward, and was a trier from start to finish.

REEFTON C 2, UNITED A 0. The above resulted in a splendid game, the play travelling from end to end of the field with great rapidity. United A having suffered a reverse in a former engagement against United B. showed up to much greater advantage in Ulis match. If anything, they had more of the game than their opponents, but did not seem able to press home their opoprtunities. Misses Humphries and Alborn proved great foragers for Reefton, and Miss M. Brooks at. full-back was as safe as the Royal Mint. Miss Austin also played in her best form. Miss Alborn scored both goals for Reefton, the first being from a. fine individual effort which started in her own half of the ground. Misses V. Krimmer and E. Bolitho were best for the losers. WEST COAST FIXTURES The following are the fixtures for the ensuing fortnight:— June 27 —Cobden v. United A, at Park ; Alawhera v. United B at Rec. ; Runanga v. Hokitika at .Hokitika. July 4—United A v. Hokitika, at Hokitika ; United B v. Runanga, at Runanga ; Mawliera v. Cobden, at Park.
