NGAHERE FARM
PARTNERSHIP THAT FAILED. (Special to “Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 23. There were no creditors present at the meeting yesterday in the bankrupt estate of Edward George Hunter, traveller, of Dignan Road, Point Chevalier. The schedule showed debts amounting to £383, all owing to unsecured creditors. There were no assets. In a. written statement, bankrupt said that after the war he took over a returned soldier’s farm at Ngahere, IS miles from Greymouth, in partnership ■with two others. He invested £350, of which £l5O was borrowed from his mother. The first season was not successful, and the two partners could not find their share of the capital it was agreed should be put into the farm- Several cows died, and others hardly paid for milking. By December, 1922, both of the bankrupt’s partners had withdrawn. Bankrupt carried on until October, 1923, and then worked for wages, and also undertook bush contracts. These ventures proved unremunera.tive, and he finally came to Auckland, where he had worked for £3 a week for his brother. Business became so bad, however, that the brother had to dispense with his services, and bankrupt was now unemployed. The Official Assignee said he thought that bankrupt should pay something to his creditors before receiving his discharge. It was- obvious that he could not offer anything at the moment, but it was usual for bankrupt, if a single man, to make some offer. Bankrupt promised to do his best towards making some payment.
