REAR REFLECTORS

NO PROSECUTIONS MEANWHILE

Tlie following is an extract from a letter forwarded to the Under-Secre-tary of the Public Works Department by the Motor Trade Association: — “It will be impossible for motorists to comply with the regulation in the time provided, as there is not sufficient. stock of suitable reflectors in New Zealand for their requirements. "Under these circumstances I would suggest that an extension of time be given until the end of the present year, so that suitable reflectors could be imported if il is still the intention of the Government to enforce this regulation.’’ The reply of the Public Works Department it: as follows: —

“The Motor-vehicle Regulations 1928. were circulated in draft form in. November last, and gazetted on March 1G last, and it is considered that dealers and the public have had ample time for obtaining the necessary reflectors. “In view of the circumstances as set out, endeavours will be made to suspend prosecutions under the regulation, by the police until the end of July, but it is not practicable to communicate with every traffic inspector in New Zealand in the same terms.” i
