PEKIN’S NEW NAME.

Chang Tso Lin is really dead. This announcement was made to-day, Mukden dating his demise as on June 21. The Nationalists Central Political Council announces the change of name from Pekin to Peiping, meaning northern peace. A statement has been issued that the northern city of ancient art treasures and historic remains will remain the centre of culture and worthily fill its place in Chinese national life, but as the political capital of the republic, Pekin, is dead, and must give way to Nanking. The name cf the province of Chihli has also been changed to Hopei, meaning the Province north of the Yellow River. V, bile the control of Pekin is metropolitan, it is regarded that Chihli*wil come under provincial control.

TOKIO, June 21.

In consideration of the adequate measures by the Chinese authorities, uccessfully preventing disturbances in Yangtsze and on the Southern coast, it has been decided to withdraw the Japanese warships, specially despatched at the beginning of May, numbering twenty-seven.
