PERSONAL NOTES

Miss Ine McGuire, who underwent an operation on Tuesday, is progressing favourably.

Dr. Paterson, who lias been appointed house surgeon at the Grey Hospital, arrived by yesterday’s express.

Mrs Fagerlund, of Barrytown, who is an inmate of the Grey Hospital, is progressing favourably.

Mr and Mrs W. E. Smith arrived yesterday from Lauriston, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. H. Pike.

Mr N. B. McCallum, who has been i visiting Christchurch, returned yesterday.

Mr and Mrs E. A. Wilson, South Beach, who have been visiting Otago, returned yesterday.

Mr Len Taylor arrived yesterday from Christchurch on a visit to his father, Mr Joseph Taylor, Cobden.

Mr C. L. Green, manager of the Royal Assurance Cbrporation, Ltd., at Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth, and returns to-morrow.

Sir Alfred Mond, the financier, who was recently raised to the peerage, will take the title of Lord Melcheat of Landford.

The death is announced from Sydney of Mr John McCaughley, the onlyremaining brother of the famous family of pastoralists.

Sir D. De Chair, Governor of N. S. Wales, has been notified from London that his term of office has been extended for twelve months, till February, 1930.

The condition of Mr F. Johnston, who was injured while playing football on Sunday, and was operated upon at the Grey Hospital last evening, is reported to-day to be unchanged.

Mr Len Stokes, of Paroa, who was admitted to the Grey Hospital, yesterday, suffering from injuries received through falling from his motor cycle at Wallsend, was reported to-day to be making satisfactory progress. Messrs ,D. F. A. Cooper, S.M. (chairman), R. Frazer, D. J. Harper and Dr. Izaac, of the Pensions Board, arrived yesterday from Christchurch, and held a sitting of the Board this morning. They return to Christchurch to-mor-row. Among the guests at the Albion Hotel are:—Mr and Mrs Day (Wellington), Dr. Izard (Wellington), Messrs R. Frazer, D. G. A. Cooper (Wellington), A. D. Baggs, J. C. Fairbairn, R. M. Jack, A. R. Hutchin, S. W. Holland, J. Donkin, J. Paynton, H. R. Abbott. (Christchurch), C. Sadler, H. Lee (Reefton).
