WEDDING

MCSWEENEY—LOWRY

A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Mary’s Church, Wanganui, on April IS, when Ellen Gertrude (Nell), only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Lowry of Moana, late of Hunterville, was married to Frank, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. M. McSweeney, Tailiape. Rev. Father La Croix officiated and celebrated a nuptial mass-, assisted by Rev. Father Doolaghty of Tailiape. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of Mr. Pop’e, of Wanganui, looked charming in a frock of ivory georgette, daintily trimmed with bands of silver lame lace and pink and maizt coloured posies. Silver shoes and stockings were worn to match. Her beautiful embroidered veil (gift of Mrs. Sievert, Palmerston North), fell in graceful folds from a coronet of orange blossoms with clusters at each side. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses-, chrysanthemums and maiden hair fern. Two bridesmaids attended her, Miss Eileen McSweeney, (Taihape), sister of the bridegroom, in dainty frock of pale pink crepe de chine and creme lace, and hat to match. Miss Mary Mahoney of Timaru, (friend of the bride) in powder blue georgette frock and radium lace with hat, to tone. Both bridesmaids carried bouquets of roses and chrysanthemums of an autumn tint and maiden hair fern. Mr. Hector Webley of Wellington acted as best man and Mr. James O’Neill of Palmerston North as groomsman. The wedding breakfast was held at the “Royale Willows.” Rev. Father La Croix presided and proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom. The toasts of the bride and bridegroom’s parents was proposed by Rev. Father Doolaghty. After the cutting of the wedding cake (the gift of Misses Winifred and Jean Dykes of Ha.wera), musical items were rendered as follow: Violin solo by Mr. O’Neill, accompanied by Miss E. McSweeney; songs by Messrs McMaster and Pope accompanied by Mrs. N. M. McCarthy. The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many useful presents including cheques; also numerous telegrams of congratulations. Later they loft by car for New Plymouth en route for Waitomo Caves and Auckland, the bride travelling in a smart blue tailored costume with hat to tone and Russian fox fur.
