COBDEN NOTES

(Our ' /wn Correspondent.)

The parishioners of. the Church of the Resurrection, Cobden, last night tendered a farewell social to Archdeacon and Mrs Carr. York Hall was comfortably filled, and an attractive musical programme was presented. During the interval Rev. W. Bell presented the Archdeacon with a study clock as a slight memento of the affection in which he was held by the Cobden congregation. His stay had been marked by steady progress, and the Cobden people were thankful for the assistance their guest had rendered, particularly during the early years of the present church Mr H. R. Barrett also spoke, emphasizing the departing minister s work among the children and the sick, work which was generally unseen, but none the less valuable. Mr L. Teasdale added the thanks and appreciation of members of the Bible Class. The Archdeacon had been more of a helper and a companion, and as such his' work had been exceedingly valuable. On behalf of the ladies, Mrs Calder expressed their regret at losing their guests. The Archdeacon had been a real help to Cobden, particularly before the appointment of a resident minister, and all were sorry to lose

them. Hearty applause greeted the Archdeacon on rising to reply. He thanked al Ifor their kind remarks about him and his wife, and they would treasure the gift which would ever remind them of the Cobden folk. He then proceeded to relate several humorous stores of occurrences during his stayon the Coast, and he trusted that the Cobden, church would continue to progress and remain united as at present. Competitions, and games filled in a very social evening, at the conclusion of which the ladies handed round a dainty supper. Competitions were won by Mis N.
