HARBOUR COLLISION ENQUIRY
(Per Preaa Association.) AUCKLAND, May 30. The Nautical Court of Inquiry concerning the collision between the collier Hikurangi, and the scow Havoc (which was being towed by the launch Orere, in Waitemata Harbour, on the night of April 2) delivered its finding to-day. ' The Court decided that the cause of the casualty was that, owing to the position of the master of the Hikurangi on his vessel, he did not have a good lookout, and did not see the lights of the Havoc, as a lookout in a favourable position would have seerthem. Further, that the master of the Hikurangi made an error of judgment in endeavouring to keep the course between what ho took to be a vessel at anchor or a vessel proceeding in the same direction, and the shore; and in keeping his speed in these circumstanced. The Court ordered Captain G. N. George, master of the Hikurangi, to pay three-quarters of the cost of the inquiry, and the Harbour Board, as owners of the Havoc and Orere, to pay the remaining quarter. Captain George’s certificate was returned to him. LOST FISHERMEN. AUCKLAND, May 30. The fate of the fishing launch Dolly, which left Auckland on November 22 last, and was last seen at Kawau Island. on December 4, was formally inquired into by a Nautical Court today. The finding of the Court was that on or about December 5, the Dolly was lost at sea, and Joseph Henry Maslam and Thomas Hook, members of the crew, were drowned.
