The announcement that a referendum with a bare majority on the prohibition question will be held in September had a marked effect on brewery shares on the Sydney Stock Exchange. Owing to the nervousness of shareholders, and the desire to dispose of shares, prices have fallen considerably. The total marking down in two days amounted to £945,000.
