SEAL HUNTING BY AIR
’PLANE TO LEAD THE WAY
LONDON, January 29
When the Newfoundland sealing fleet leaves St. John’s on March 1 on its annual hunt it will be accompanied by a British light aeroplane, on the observation of whose pilot much of the success of the hunt will depend. The machine which has been chosen as the most suitable for the purpose, is an Avro Avian two-seater, which, with its 30 h.p. A.D.C. Cirrus engine, is widely used by light ’plane clubs and private owners in this'country.
It will be flown by a. well-known Canadian pilot, Mr. C. S. Caldwell, and has been fitted with skis to enable it to take-off and land on the ice-floes during its seal-spotting excursions.
