WOOLLEN INDUSTRY

A LEVY PROPOSAL

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.)

LONDON. March 22.

The annual report, of the British Research Association of Woollen and Worsted Industries say, that the Association has been negotiating with the Trade Federations regarding a statutory levy on all raw wool consumed in Britain. Assuming this would average 480 million lbs per year, a levy of a. hundredth-penny per lb would provide an income of £20,000. The British Wool Federation promised sympathetic consideration. The report points out that Australian brokers and growers are raising £200,000 a year by means of a levy of 2/- a bale and adds: “If this can come at the raw material end, surely support ought to be forthcoming for investigations from the fleece to fabric.”
