KUMARA NOTES

Master Cyril Rochford, whilst cranking a lorry the other- day, had the misfortune to have his wrist broken, through the machine back-firing. During the absence of Dr Booth, who is away on holiday, Dr McNicoll is acting as locum tenons. Mr and Mrs J. Johnsen, who have been on a visit to Kumara, have returned to their homes in Wellington. Constable Wilton, of Napier, who succeeds Constable Fox in charge of the Kumara station, has taken up his duties.

Mr E. Martyn, jun., who had the misfortune to cut off one of his fingers whilst chopping wood the other day, is still an inmate of the Grey Hospital.

Mr John Connors, whilst at work in the bush in the early part of the week, was struck on the head by /the limb of a tree, inflicting a nasty gash that necessitated surgical attention. Mr Shaw, formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Hokitika, and who for the past nine months has been on holiday in the Old Country, paid a visit to Kumara on Monday. For the next few months Mr Shaw will be on relieving duty. Mrs Millson (sen.), of Dillmans, whose health for some considerable time past lias not been satisfactory, left on Thursday morning for the Manila Springs. Whilst at work oh the Taipo bridge, ife foreman, Mr F. Roberts, severely sprained his back. He was removed to the Grey Hospital for X-ray examination.

Miss L. Martyn, of Christchurch, who has been on a visit to her parents, left on her return by this morning’s express. She was accompanied by her sister, Miss V. Martyn, who is en route to Auckland.

Mr J. McFarlane, who has been attending the annual Fire Brigades Conference at New Plymouth, is expected to return to Kumara next week.
