'The “Greymouth Evening Star Co.. Ltd;," was registered in 1895, and the /‘present building in Mackay Street, of two - stories in brick, was erected in

1902, and added to later. In. the beginning, the “Star” was a four-pagc publication, but its progress has been steady, and to-day its size is never less than ten pages, is often twelve, and sometimes sixteen. The .plant installed is of a modern nature, and is the best, of its kind on the West Coast.

A new printing machine, one of the latest models, was installed last year. An outstanding record of service is that ®of Mr. F. H. Kilgour, who has been manager of the “Star” for thirtysix years, and, like Johnny Walker, is “still going strong.” Mr. Kilgour was born at Dunstan in 1864, a son of the late Mr. William Kilgour. He was educated at Mr. T. Thomas’s private school at Greymouth, and served his apprenticeship as a printer. In his earlier years, he was a prominent player of Rugby football, and is one of the founders of the Greymouth Bowling Club. For nearly twenty years he Jias been a Justice of the Peace, ahd for the past seven years has been actihg-Coroner. He was. a member of the Westland Licensing Coinmittee for 15 years, ahd. a member of the Grey Education Board for a Similar period. He is now a member of the Technical School Board, and chairman of the Finance ComAmong many other semipublic positions, Mr. Kilgour has been a steward and clerk of scales of the Greymouth Jockey Club.
