MILFORD SOUND HOSTEL
GREY CONTRACTOR’S SUCCESS. The well-known Greymonth contractor Mr J. A. Hart, was advised yesterday by the Public Works Department'that his tender, totalling between £14,000 and £15,000, has been accepted for the erection of a new hostel at Milford Sound. Conversing with a reporter to-day, Mr Hart.stated, in reply to questions, that the 'work would start almost immediately. The first job would be the clearing of twelve acres of bush on the liostel site. The contract also includes the installation of an electric lighting scheme, with generating plant and reticulation, pump house, staff cottages, laundry, and water supply, in addition to the construction of the hostel. The- success of Mr Hart will be of benefit to the West Coast .in another direction. The whole of the timber for the job will be heart of red pine, and it is already stacked at Ogilvie’s millGladstone Siding. The order, for timber will amount to approximately 168,000 superficial feet.
