OPERA HOUSE. Does friendship between man and man surpass in fineness, spirituality and permanence love between man and woman? This is one of the questions of enduring interest to humanity that is raised'in “Satan in Sables” at the Opera House to-night, starring Lowell Sherman. In ancient Greece, where the intellect held sway and was greatly gloried in, philosophers looked upon love between man and woman much 1 as we are apt to-day as the prime motivating force of the world. However, they considered it something inevitable and natural, the decree of nature and nothing particularly redounding to the credit of either person Loves or friendships between men were many, based upon similarity of tastes, interests and intellects, and were held to be purely of the mind and spirit. Several friedships of this type which could have been called perfect love by these (ancient philosophers, such as that of Damon and Pythias, have existed in history. , FRIDAY ONLY. “One Increasing Purpose,” one of the most talked of books of the year has been brought to the screen by Fox Films, and will be shown for the first time at the Opera House on Friday night. This screen version of the hook by Mr A. S. M. Hutchison is said to excdfed in dramatic values and presentation “If Winter Comes,” which proved such a sensation a few years ago. ANNUAL TRADES PICNIC. A meeting will be held this evening to arrange for the annual trades picnic, but if the attendance of shop assistants and tradespeople is no better than at the meeting called for last Tuesday evening, the project will be dropped.
