Jan. 26, 28.—Forbur.y Park T.C. Jan. 28.—!-Hawke’s Bay T.C. Jan. 31, Feb. I.—Nelson T.C. GALLOPING. Grand Knight is booked for sale. Says a North Island paper:—Grand Knight is not likely to carry the cerise and white chequers of V. Riddiford much* longer. He appears to have become rather tired of racing, and his two showings at Ellerslie disappointed his connections. He is booked for sale by auction this month at the Trentham sales. Tb-morrow the acceptances for the Wellington R.C. meeting, which commences on January 21, are due, and already the question is engrossing the minds of the sporting community—can Rapier win his fourth Cup?—the Wellington Cup of li miles. Rapier and Star Stranger figure at the top of the weights with 9.8. In the Auckland Cup, Star Stranger was conceding Rapier lOlbs., the latter winning with Star Stranger out of a place. Star Stranger-subsequently won the A.R.C. Handicap of 11 miles. Footfall (8.11) Piuthair (8.5), Mask (8.4) and Set Sail (8.3) come next. Fit and well Piuthair should have every chance. She won the Great Autumn last year with 8.13. Mask had been accomplishing excellent work at Wanganui prior to the Auckland meeting, where he won the Grandstand Handicap, of 1J miles, on the last day. Set Sail’s Southern form has been good, and she stays well. Three lower down who appeal are Papatu, who finished second to Star Stranger in the A.R.C. Handicap, Pink Note,, who has been racing solidly of late, and Celerity IL, but whether the last named will see out, the H miles has yet to be shown. Rapier has beaten good fields and is a proved performer, and should go a great race. Mask and Set Sail should also run prominently. It is interesting to note that during the current season, top-weights have been very prominent. ■Silver Coot has been galloping attractively at Riccarton, and a repetition .of-this form at Ashburton on Saturday should cause his opponents to travel. He raced below form at the South Canterbury meeting in December, but has freshened, up considerably and has never been in better trim.

The Southland-owned sprinting mare, Good as Gold, has been treated to the minimum in the 'Wellington R’.C’s Telegraph Handicap and reads nicely at 7.0.- There is no doubt that the Paper Money mare can gallop fast, and if she should get an even break with her rivals at Trentham there will be trouble ahead for many northern sprinters. Mr. Baird’s mare appears to be at: the top of her form at present, and if this condition holds good for another fortnight Good as Gold will rightly carry a fair amount of southern support for the Railway Handicap on January 21. , The Oamaru trainer J. Ross has John Bradbury, Solrose and Taboo working on the Southland tracks awaiting the Wario J.C. fixture •on Saturday. John Bradbury, by the way, was moving soundly on Saturday morning and bore the appearance of a well seasoned galloper. A Southern writer states: —The imported mare, Celerity 11., was on the Southland R.C. tracks • on Saturday morning, getting through the easiest of exercise after warm water treatment at her home quarters. It appears that she did not get the best of runs in the Invercargill Cup, and was. badly treated by several other competitors at the barrier anil in the race for the Southland Handicap on the final day of the S.R.C. fixture, with the result that she is suffering from knee and other troubles.

The New Zealand Racing Conference has agreed to the change of date for the Westland Racing Club’s Easter meeting, which will be held now on Thursday, April 12. The programme has been submitted for the approval of the racing and trotting authorities.
