Dr. W. McKay returned from Christchurch on Saturday.

Rev; Father Maguire arrived from Christchurch on Saturday, and is the guest of St. Patrick’s Presbytery.

The death is announced from Rome of the Papal secretary, Cardinal Benzani.

Mr A. B. Larsen left for Christchurch on timber business this morning.

Mrs- T. G. Brebner, Cowper Street, who has .been visiting Christchurch, returned on Saturday.

Mr C. Moore, manager of the Greymouth branch of New Zealand Clothing Factory, will leave for Christchurch on holiday to-morrow.

The appointment is announced from Rome of Cardinal Bonaventure Cerretti as Cardinal Legate at the World Eucharistic Congress to be held in Australia.

Advice has been received by Mr W. Kilgour of the death at Sydney of his daughter, Mrs Thelma Connellan, after a long illness. Deceased was a native of Sydney, and was 26 years of age. She- is /survived by her husband and one child.

Cable advice has been received of the death of Mrs S. Hart, which took place at her late residence, Armadale, Scotland, on Friday, November 25. Deceased was 77 years of age. She leaves a family of seven sons, among them being. Hugh and John, of Brunnerton, and two daughters.

A cablegram from Vancouver stated that Mr- Richard E. Jamieson, sixtyone, managing director of the Gregory Tyre Company, Vancouver, died on Thursday from acute gastritis aboard the Aorangi, when nearing Honolulu, and was burled at sea. He was on a business trip bound for New Zealand. The death of . Mr Michael Tobin,

aged 87, occurred yesterday at Nelson Creek. Deceased had resided for fcmany years on the West Coast and leaves a grown-up family. His wife predeceased him about two years ago. The funeral takes place at Nelson Creek to-morrow.

The death of Mr William Smith occurred on Saturday at Christchurch. Deceased, who a former West Coast resident, was a bootmaker by trade, and formerly in business in Brunner and. later, in Boundary Street, Greymouth. He moved to Christchurch about nine years ago. ' He leaves an adult family, Mesdames M. Smythe (Gr.eymouth), J. Ball (Christchurch), and Cullen (Greymbuth) being daughters. •
