Part of the team of New Zealand riflemen left for Australia to-day by the Ulimaroa, to take part in the New South Wales National Rifle Association’s annual meeting, which will open on Anzac Range, Liverpool, some 20 miles out of Sydney, on October 8. The object of these early visitors is to get in some practice before the meeting. Those who left to-day were Captain W. N. Masefield (Marlborough), T. Goodall (Wellington), W. J. Green and J. Matthewson (Hawke’s Bay), F. Higgs, A. Robertson and J. Turnbull (Taranaki), H. Reynolds (Christchurch), E. E. Venell (Masterton, Opaki) and C. Powell (Auckland). The following will proceed by the Makura, leaving Wellington on Tuesday:—E. Ballinger, A. Ballinger and W. H. Ballinger, R. Caughley and H. Boon (Wellington), J. Carter (Manawatu), F. Sharland (Marlborough) and J. Heney (Canterbury 1 ). The New’ Zealand team will enter representatives to fire in the Gordon Highlander (Service) Match, which is open to teams from the different Australian States and New Zealand, and will also enter a team to compete against Commonwealth teams in the Commonw’ealth teams’ match. It is reckoned that New’ Zealand will be represented by a really strong team, including as it does ex-New Zealand champions Venell, A.
