On resuming the match Walters and Mathias set up such a determined defence on an easy wicket, that though Lowry tried eight bowlers, they remained immovable, and enabled a declaration to be made at 250 for the loss of only six wickets. Walters who was 76 played a fine resolute innings. The New Zealand captain changed the order of going in, with the result that six men were skittled out by Jagger and Raikes for 66. Dacre then came to assist James in making a much needed stand. The Aucklander was in his most aggressive mood, and the partnership put a better face on the innings, by adding 67 in half an hour. After the tea adjournment, Dacre went on in his best style, and treated the onlookers to a great display of hitting. He sent the ball over the ropes five times, and also had three fours.
Lowry, when he came in appeared to be determined not to be outdone, and also started to hit, but was quicklv cut short by a fine catch in the lopg field. This ended the innings, ami the game was drawn. There was one interruption by rain. DUNEDIN, September 8. At a meeting of the Otago Cricket Association, to-night, L. C. Eastman, of Essex, was appointed coach for the Association. He will leave by the Corinthic for New Zealand oil September 16. Eastman is said to be a very handy all rounder, his bowling average for all first class matches in 1926 was 31.02 and his batting average 19.4.
