LEAGUE FOOTBALL

AUCKLAND’S VISIT TO COAST. (Special to “Star.”) AUCKLAND, Sept. 1. At. the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League, last night, a lengthy discussion arose over the itinerary of the Auckland touring team. Mr W. J. Davidson asked whether it was not possible, even at this late hour, to include Buller in the trip to the West Coast. - Mi’ D. P. Deere said that Buller was now a stronghold of the League game and it was to be regretted th fit it should be deprived of a game against Auckland.

Mr Rhodes agreed with the other speakers, but on the score of expense only, it was impossible to consider the position. The cost of taking the team from Nelson to Buller by car would entail an expenditure of £65. He would be the .first ,to assist the Buller League, but the cost was too great and the Auckland League was not in a position to carry the extra burden.

Mr C. Adamson suggested that the Buller League should be invited .to play a match in Auckland early next season.

It was eventually decided to assist the West Coast League in the expenses of the Buller players taking part in the combined West Coast game at Greymouth. It was further agreed to extend an invitation to the Buller League to play a match in Auckland .early next season. It was decided to grant the free use of Carlaw Park to the New Zealand Council for the North v. South Island match on September 24.

The West Coast schoolboys’ representative team left to-day for Christchurch, where they will play the Canterbury representatives on Saturday for the Norman Cox Memorial Cup.

The following team will represent Runanga Thirds in their match against Marist at Dunol.lie on Sunday :—J, Brown, Harrington, Maddison, Hawkins, Marshall, J. Finley, O’Neil, J. Glynn, Boote, Ennor, Devine, Duggan, W. Finlay. Emergency, J. Tallentyre.

The Greymouth Rugby League Club meet to-night (Thursday) at 7-30 in the Old Band Hall, Guinness Street.
