GIRLS’ ESCAPADE

CHEAP MOTOR CAR DEAL.

AUCKLAND, Sept 1.

Having purchased a broken down car on the hire purchase system, two adventurous girls of eighteen,/recently came overland from Waipukurau to Auckland. They were found by the police at 3 o’clock yesterday morning in Chancery Lane, where they had parked the car. Magistrate Hunt observed to-day, when they were charged with being idle and disorderly, that they had been joy-riding, having bought a car by making a small deposit, and paying 5/- a week off it. One girl is a Weilingtonian, and the other belongs to Waipukurau. The case was adjourned till September 8. The girls meantime, were handed to the care of Major Gordon, Salvationist, and the Woman Probation Officer.
