MAN STABBED

PRIVATE DETECTIVE ARRESTED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 2.3. Herbert Marshall Brookes, 47, private enquiry agent, was charged this morning with causing grievous bodily harm to Alexander Percy Cuthbert Bentley, 27. Brookes walked into the dock with a badly bruiseed and swollen face, two black eyes, and a wound over the left eye. The Chief Detective in asking for a remand (granted on bail of .£lOO, although opposed by police), said that Bentley, who is in partnership with Mrs. Brookes in a Parisian dancing studio, went to Brookes’ home last evening. Accused had some drink's and words ensued, Bentley stating that Brookes resented his friendship with the wife. In a fight, Brookes used a carving knife, inflicting a deep wound, four inches long, in the back of Bentleys neck.
