IKAMATUA NOTES

(Our Owr> Correspondent.) A very pleasant evening was spent in the Ikamatua Hall on Friday last, when the residents gathered together to bid farewell to Miss J. Mirfin, who is getting married and leaving the district. There were about 300 of Miss Mirfin’s friends present. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and dancing, games and music occupied the greater part of the evening. Songs were given by Misses M. Walsh and A. McEwin and Mr. G. Murtha. Mr. A. Mclnroe was M.C. and Mr. H. Holder officiated at the piano. During the evening Miss Mirfin was presented with a dinner set, Indian tray and set of silver tea spoons to mark in some degree the respect iu which she is held in the district. Mr. A. Doig, in making the presentation, spoke very highly of Miss Mirfin’s good qualities anil remarked on how she would he missed in the district generally as she was ever ready to assist in any social function and everything that Miss Mirfin had a hand in was always a success. On behalf of the residents lie wished her God-speed in her new life. Messrs Arthur and George Mclnroe also spoke on behalf of the residents. Mr. Mirfin senr., feelingly replied on behalf of his daughter. Younger residents present kept the ball rolling till the early hours of the morning and ended up with “Auld Lang Syne.” Mr. C.
