SHIPPING NOTES. The Kamona arrived this morning from Wellington. She loads coal and timber for Wellington and sails tomorrow morning. The Kaimai sails for Wellington today with a cargo of coal and timber. She returns to Greymouth about next Friday, and will load a cargo of coal for Wellington. The Kaituna is due on Tuesday. She will load a cargo of timber for Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Newcastle. The Kittawa was expected to leave Lyttelton last night for Greymouth. She loads coal for Wellington. The Poolta is loading a full cargo of timbex* for Sydney and Brisbane, and is expected to saii on Monday night. The Ihumata is due from Wanganui on Thursday next, to load a full cargo of timber for Melbourne and Sydney. The Alexander sailed this morning for Nelson with a full cargo of coal. The Orepuki is due on Tuesday from Lyttelton, via Nelson and Westport, with general cargo. After discharge she loads coal for Nelson and Picton. A fourteen-foot long model of the 14.000-ton Blue Stai* liner Avelona, weighing over a ton, and costing nearly £2OOO, has been shipped from London to Buenos Aires for exhibition. The model, which has been built by a large , firm of engineers on Clydebank, is an exact replica in miniature —even to the ship’s compass—of the Avelona, which is now being fitted out on the Clyde for* her maiden voyage to South The model took six months to make.
MAKURA IN DOCK. AUCKLAND, June 24. The Makura arrived from Wellington this afternoon, and immediately went into dock. Aftei’ the dock was emptied of water to-night, an examination of the hull showed very little damage. The only repairs needed are six new rivets and a few loose ones to he tightened. It is expected to undeck the vessel at 5 o’clock to-morrow evening, and despatch her for San Francisco at 10 o’clock on Sunday morning, i The passengers were landed to-day, and are staying at various hotels. They will be taken to the steamer by special ferry on Sunday morning.
