BLOOD TRANSFUSION
FROM FATHER TO SON. A transfusion of blood from father to son was successfully operated at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, recently. Mr Clarence Shakespeare, who, with his brother, is a publisher of the Canberra Times, had a whitlow, which apparently healed. Subsequently, his health failed, and he went to Sydney After an examination, specialists found that septic inflammation to the lining of the cavities of the heart had set up. The Specialists prepared a serum, but the patient’s condition was too low to permit of direct injection. Mr T. M. Shakespeare, M.L.C., readily volunteer for a transfusion of blood. His blood was infused with the germ, and by the transfusion was transmitted to that of his son. The operation was quite successful.
