NEW SPEED'RECORDS (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, June 18. Terrific speeds characterised the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Races, demonstrating the remarkable advance in the motor cycle engine. A hundred thousand people were thrilled by the magnificent riding of the Irishman, Alec Bennett, who smashed all records, and averaged 75 miles per hour for 264 miles. His cornering Was so accurate that the machine never faltered. Stanley Woods, last year’s winner, beat the record for the course circuit in the second lap, and beat it again 'at the 71st. The-competitors could not cope with Woods’s terrific riding. He passed a score of riders in three laps, as he dashed down the mountain, but at the 100th lap he stopped owing to clutch trouble. 167 MILES AN HOUR PARIS, June 17. At Montlhery, a Britisher, D. W. Marchant, riding a 350 c.c. Motosacoche, covered five kilometres at an average speed of 167.66 miles an hour and five miles at an average of 167.29 miles per hour, both being records. MORE BRITISH WINS. . BERLIN. June 19. At the inauguration of a super speed track at Nuerburg ring, British machines, Velocette. Sunbeam, .and Excelsior were first, second and third in the opening race for machines, not exceeding 350 centimetres.
