Miss E. Parfitt of Rewa Maternity Home, left this morning on holiday to Christchurch.
Mrs C. Harrison, who has been visiting her brother, Mr R. Monk, Kokatahi, returned to-day to Christchurch.
Mr Justice Adams, and his Associate, Mr Russell, arrived this afternoon from Christchurch.
Mr H. E. Longworth, Director of Physical Culture to the Health Department, is visiting Greymouth.
Mr L. S. Cumming, who has been visiting the West Coast, left this morning for Christchurch, en route to Sydney.
Mr H. Bignell, member of the Canterbury Education. Board, who has been confined to his home for the past fortnight has . slightly improved.
Mr B. Older, Chief Engineer, at the Grey Power Board’s Power House, at Dobson, left to-day for Christchurch, on holiday leave.
Mr R. Wild, Hokitika, was a passenger this morning to Christchurch, where he will attend the monthly meeting of the Board of Education.
Miss L. Campbell lef? for Christchurch this morning. She will be the guest of Mrs. G. Dobbs, Bletsoe Avenue.
Included in the guests at the Albion Hotel are: Messrs A. D. Baggs, J. C. Fairburn, H. Y. Seales, H. F. Robertson, F. Green, C. H. Jansen (Christchurch), H. E. Longworth (Wellington).
The names of the following appear in the list of Justices of the Peace recently gazetted:—George H. Chapman, Ross; Norman E. Friend, Okarito; Hugh Linklater, Waitaha; John Murdoch, Ross; Charles J. Strongman, Granity.
The death occurred at Timaru on Sunday night of Mr. John Hardcastle, a veteran journalist, who at one time was editor of the “South Canterbury Times” and also of the “Timaru Herald.” He was 43 years on the latter paper as reporter, sub-editor, and editor. He was ,80 years of age.
The funeral of Archdeacon Devoy took place this morning at Wellington. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Archbishop O’Shea, Monsignor McKenna assisting. There was an overflowing teongregation. The musical part of the ceremony was carried out by St. Patrick’s choir. An eloquent funeral oration was delivered by Archbishop Redwood. The funeral cortege was long. Many people lined the streets, bareheaded as it passed.— Press Association. Mr A. Scalmer, who was formerly in business in Cobden, as proprietor of the Hamilton Hotel, was entertained at Darfield last Wednesday, on the oc- ' casion of his leaving Darfield, where under the auspices of the Darfield Football Club, he was tendered a farewell social. Mr M. J. Gallagher, president of the club presided, and, during the evening presented Mr Scalmer with a silver cigarette case as a recognition of his assistance to the club as its coach. *•» - The wedding of Mr William Burley, of the Greymouth Railway staff, to Miss Gloria Dean of Waiuta, was solemnised at St. Patrick’s Church this morning, Nuptial Mass being celebrated by Rev. Father Quinn. The bride was attired in a frock of rose de luxe charmeline, with hat to match, and was attended by Missy Clare Burley, sister of the bridegroom, who wore bois de rose repp, and hat to tone.. The best man was Mr John Cosgriff. Later, Mr and Mrs Burley left by express for Christchurch, where their honeymoon will be spent.
