CAWNPORE OFF TO SYDNEY. (Special to “Star.") AUCKLAND, June 10. Cawnpore was sent across to Sydney by the' Mahenp to-day in charge of the Randwick trainer P. Keith, who has been on a visit to Auckland. Cawnpore, who is owned by Mr. E. W. Alison, Jnr., was purchased as a yearling in Sydney, and as a three-year-old was sent back to Sydney, so that he could be trained at Randwick, where good . tracks were always available. Cawnpore was not started in Australia on that occasion, but on his to New Zeaalnd he won some good races last season. Cawnpore was again transported to Sydney, and though he was started on several occasions he failed to win. GLAND TREATMENT SUCCESSFUL LONDON, June 9. The three-year-old racehorse, Pentire, whose lip was saved through a thyroid gland operation, won the. Mark Price Handicap at Manchester. Mr. A. R. Sox, his wealthy owner, concluded that Pentire was worthless, and condemned the animal to be shot, but a veterinary surgeon, says the “Daily Express,” begged that the colt should be spared for gland treatment, Although it looked hopeless, the owner consented. The colt, from an undersized weed, developed so as to justify training, and he accomplished his excellent performance under second topweight.
