CAMERA NOTES
(By “Exposure Meter”). I note the Invercargill Competition Society have a photographic section on their schedule this year. The extracts relating to photography read as follow: —Class 103. Best pictorial photograph, any size, mounted, but not framed. Not more than three prints to be included in each entry. First prize £l, second prize 10/-. Now this is quite a good idea, and I think if the Greymouth Society was approached they would do likewise. I trust some of oui' local amateurs will send some prints to Invercargill and bring the prizes to the Coast. During the week, Mr Rose, secretary of the A. and P. Association, called on me regard to the A. and P. Show for 1928. As it will be Jubilee Year, he would like the photographic section to be extra good. The Jubilee Week is from February 13 to 18, and no doubt the Show will be held some time that week. Now it is for us to say what classes we want on the schedule. Will one of you keen amateurs call a meeting immediately to discuss this question, as they must know what classes are wanted before the schedule goes to Press. To make this a big success, I trust you will all attend the meeting.

History in Motion. —The Government is building new vaults of steel for the storage of all motion picture film that might prove useful or interesting to future generations, says “American Photography.” The news reel companies as well as the production studios are searching through their negatives for all historical matter. The news-reel companies especially, have miles and miles of film of great value. These films will be stored away for the use of future generations, and it does not take much imagination to visualize how these films will be received in the years to come. The Eastman Kodak Company has invented a new process by which film may be preserved indefinitely. This of course is of prime importance, and all films deemed worthy of saving will be processed by this company. The news-reels have unearthed pictures of President McKinley, these being perhaps the first reel news-reel pictures ever made. Then there are many feet of Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and other important personalities in the affairs of the Government. There are many feet —running into thousands —of actual war pictures, which have never been released. These, too, are to be released for posterity. We of this age, perhaps, do not grasp the importance of these pictures now, but far-seeing individuals firmly believe that these pictures will be of great importance to future generations. Especially where motion pictures are beginning to play a part in education even now, it is not difficult to realize that in the ‘ years to come these very pictures may be a part of every school lesson.
