“GOT A BITE”
KITCHINGHAM V. KENT
One “tiff” disturbed the serenity of the Greymouth Borough Councillors at last evening’s meeting, but it ended as quickly as it began. The Engineer (Mr. A. J. Fair maid)* had reported that over half a mile of four-inch pipes for the water service were expected to arrive at an early date, and Cr. J. B. Kent said he hoped that the pipes would not be diverted to any portion of the Borough other than that for which they were intended.
Cr. F. A. Kitchingham objected to the remark, and alleged that the other portion of the Borough Cr. Kent had in mind was Marsden Road.
The protest caused Cr. Kent to laugh heartily, and Cr. Kitchingham’s indignation was fanned thereby. He remarked that Cr. Kent probably thought he had “got a bite,” but he (Cr. Kitchingham) strongly objected to insinuations being made at the Council table.
Cr. Kent denied insinuating anything about Marsden Road. If the cap fitted, however, Cr. Kitchingham! could wear it.
The Mayor (Mr. J. W. Greensl ide) intervened, and said he felt sure that Or. Kitchingham would accept Cr Kent’s statement that no insinuation was intended. Then peace was restored.
