REMARKABLE FILM
FAMOUS PEOPLE AS STARS
Ninety-six of the most famous men and women in England are taking part in a British film which is' now beingmade in London. They include such well known . people .as Sir Oliver Lodge, Field Marshall Sir William Robertson, the Eai’l and Countess of Oxford, Lady Rhondda, Mr. George Bernard Shaw, Mr. Lloyd George, Sir Wm. Oirpen, Lord Ashfield, ? and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The ninety-six notabilities have agreed to have their faces dissected by the film to make a of pi«tures to be called “Fortune of Faces.” There will be 12 films, with eight famous faces in each. The different parts of the features —forehead, eyes, nose, lips, chin, and so on, are taken in turn and analysed to show how character is reflected in one’s face. Each famous face “grows” on the screen in reproduced form, so that the spectator shall observe the salient points of the features, and this trick reproduction dissolves into the livingpicture of the actual person. The trick parts of the films reflect much credit on. the technical skill of British film folk. Each character’s face is “built up” on the screen in a different manner—some comical liberties being taken when the subject suggests it. i Thus, a cricket ball is hit by a bat and breaks into pieces which form themselves into Jack Hobbs’ features; notes emerging, from the horn of a saxophone compose into Mr. Jack Hylton’s features; Mr. Shaw’s face is made out of what look like little' bits of clay; and pieces of paper disintegrate to join again as other famous faces.
Mr. Shaw, who, of course, receives no fee for his wprk—none of the participants do —said it was “Good fun!” and there is evidence of his enjoyment in the way he twirls his long eyebrows with his fingers! n
