REEFTON JOCKEY CLUB.

EfttN-GO-BRAdH’S DOUBLE.

Despite showery weather conditions, the Autumn Meeting of the Reefton Jockey Club was well attended yesterday, and the totalisator returns showed an increase of £431 compared with last year’s meeting, the figures yesterday being £6762. The racing and trotting tracks were both very heavy, and torrential showers, particularly, during the Progress Trot and the. Highweight Handicap, made the task of the drivers and riders unenviable. Tn the Trot, the driver of Harina, Phelan, was thrown out of the sulky, but escaped without injury. In the Highweight Handicap, Corn Rigs , fell in the straight, and his rider Doinbroski, was lucky to get off with nothing more than a severe shaking. The fall Of Corn Rigs almost brought down. Sitters, whose rider, Menzies, made a good recovery. At the subsequent enquiry into the fall of Corn Rigs, evidence was given by Walsh, who rode Gaslight, and O’Connor, the rider of Birthmark. Walsh was severely cautioned for careless riding in the closing stages of the race. The dotible—Stewards and Farewell Handicaps—was carried off by .Mr A. J. Turley’s Erin-Go-Bragh,. in good style. The Irving Memorial, which scratching reduced to a fourhorse race, resulted in a very easy victory for Hallownoon. The Inangahua Silver Band gave a programme on the lawn during the afternoon. Meritor was made a hot favourite, and with Vai Logan led for about ten furlongs. The favourite faded out at the entrance to the straight, leaving Vai Logan to win by six lengths. A good race ensued for second place, Rothbell beating Dome by a length. Athos being fourth. Time 3.52 2-5. Tote £875. ' HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, 7 furlongs:— 9 Mr W. Stewart’s GASLIGHT, 9.5 (Walsh) 1 1 Beban and O’Donnell’s BIRTHMARK, 9.2 (O’Connor) .. .. 2 3 J. Just before starting a heavy • hail shower fell, making the course very slippery. From a good start, Gaslight established a good lead and was never displaced. At the entrance to the straight Birthmark challenged but could make no impression upon Gaslight, who won by a head, with RapiWßose half a length away. Tote £985. Time 1.35.

Erin-Go-Bragh Went on to win by half a length, Clontarf being beaten for secohd money by Motor Smash, who finished fast. Entering the straight, Para fell, but the horse and rider (Carroll), escaped uninjured. Tote £1064. Time 1.23 1-5.
