Misses M. and M. Troy left to-day on a holiday trip to Christchurch.

Mr R. B. Mathias, of Punakaiki, left to-day on a holiday to Christchurch.

Mr Wm .Perry was a passenger from Hokitika to-day to Christchurch.

Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., for Buller, leaves to-morrow for Napier.

Miss Mary Phelan was a passenger for Christchurch on to-day’s express.

Miss E. Moore, of the Main School staff, left for Christchurch to-day.

Mr and Mrs W. Midgley, of Christchurch, arrived this afternoon on a visit to Mr and Mrs C. A. Legg. -

Mr G. R. Saunders left this morning on an extended tour of the North Island.

Mr G. Groom who has been an inmate of the Grey River Hospital, returned to his. home to-day.

Mr Eric East, of the Bank of New South Wales, Nelson, is spending a holiday with his parents in Cobden.

Messrs R. Cullen and F. Dennehy were passengers on this morning’s express, for Christchurch.

Rev. W. Greenslade, who has been on a holiday visit to the West Coast, returned to-fray to Christchurch.

Mr P. A. Lee Martin, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned today to Wellington.

Mr J. Steer leaves for Christchurch to-morrow, and will return to Greymouth early next week.

Mr T. R. Hickson, who has been visiting the West Coast, returned this morning to Wellington.

Mr H. St. A. Murray, of Christchurch, who has been on a visit to Greymouth, returned to-day.

Mr R.' A. Rose, N.Z. Railways, has received word that his mother died at Bluff on Tuesday.

Mr W. E. Adams who has been visiting Westland, left Greymouth by today’s express' on his return to Christchurch.

J Mr A. R. Harris, M.P., for Waitemata, who has been on a visit to the West Coast, left this morning for Auckland.

Mr J. Sullivan, supervisor clerical staff, G.P.0., who underwent an operation in the Grey River Hospital last week is progressing favourably.

Mr E. Jenkins, who has been transferred from Westport to the Greymouth branch of the Bank of New South Wales, commenced his duties yesterday.

Mrs C. Giffney, Stillwater, is leaving for Sydney next week. A farewell social and dance will be tendei’ed by the residents of Stillwater in the Schoolroom on Saturday evening.

Mr H. D. M. Haszard, formerly Commissioner for Crown Lands in Hokitika, is about to leave for Java and the East. Mr Haszard will later tour Europe and the Old Country, and expects to return to New Zealand about the end of the year.

A cable message stated that the Prince of Wales had started for a four weeks’ holiday. The first few days he will stay at Biarritz, then he visits oKing Alfonso at Madrid, later going to Seville, returning to London on May 10.

A London cablegram announced the death of Mr Allen Stoneham, introducer of electric railways into Victoria and West Australia. He founded the French resort of Le Touquet from which he amassed a fortune. His property included Etaples, which he lent as the Australian base in war time.

At the conclusion of the Presbyterian service at Gladstone on Tuesday evening Mr and Mrs T. E. Hibbs were presented with a hymn book, with music, and a souvenir bookmark, from their Gladstone friends. Mr W. T. Ogilvie expressed the regret of the Gladstone congregation at the forthcoming departure of Mr and Mrs Dibbs and best wishes for them in their work in the Totara Flat Home Mission district.

The resignation of Canon F. W. Young, Vicar of All Saints’ parish, Ponsonby, was received yesterday by Archbishop Averill (telegraphed our Auckland correspondent). Two years ago, Canon Young was knocked down by a motor car, and he stated yesterday that his health did not permit his continuing in the strenuous work of a large city parish. He has been vicar of All Saints for the past eight years, and for five and a half prior was vicar of Holy Trinity, Devonport. He also spent two years at Northcote, and a considerable time in Northern Wairoa district. Canon Young, who intends to take 12 months’ rest, will remain a resident of Auckland. Archbishop Averill paid a warm tribute to Canon Young’s long and faithful work.
