ARTIFICIAL LIMBS
RETURNED SOLDIERS’' CRITICISM. —■£?•, rd (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON* April 12. . A deputation representing the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association, waited on the Defence Minister today voicing dissatisfaction regarding the quality of the artificial limbs being supplied to amputees. > It was stated that a questionnaire had been in favour of the .type at prein Dunedin, and off 14 replies, only (?) had been favour of the type at present in use. The Minister said it was the Department’s one object to do tlie very best it could for limbless men. The policy had been to try to find one standard of limb that was better than anything else, and concentrate on that. It was also desirable that they should be turned out by one factory, as that made for better service. Although they had only one type, that did not prevent the Department supplying special types for special cases. No complaints had been received by the Department from Dunedin, and it would have been better if those dissatisfied had adopted the course of approaching the Department' with, a view of having the oomplaint remedied. The company supplying limits for the -past- three years had made inquiries from ISO limbless. Of 01 replies, only fourteen were unfavourable. He would be glad if members of the deputation would go through the specifications for a. new supply of limbs, with an . officer, of tlie. Department, and point out where they considered the specifications were at fault.
