TIMARU, April 13
Charles Newman, an elderly man, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court before Mr Orr Walker, S.M., that he did make a bet with a bookmaker, Alfred V. Whitta, He was fined £5. with costs, and given fourteen days to pay. .Judgment was given by Mr Orr Walker in the ease in which E. A. Cross sued the Amur! Motors for damage to a car. Cross deposited the car with defendants. It had been taken, out by a youth under false pretences in claiming to act as Cross’s agent. The Magistrate held that the claim against the proprietor was exorbitant, but defendant was liable. Plaintiff was awarded £3, with costs. AUCKLAND, April 13. Scratched at noon for all engagements at the A.R.C. Meeting : King’s Folly, Shirley, Polydectes and Glad Light.
